Confetti Cup to Celebrate Life

Some moments make us look up, smile and forget everything else for a while. The Confetti collection was inspired by that feeling — watching confetti burst into the air, filling the space with colour and turning an ordinary moment into a celebration. We wanted to capture that fleeting feeling in a cup, so you can hold on to a little joy in everyday life.

Creating the confetti effect using Nerikomi technique is a slow and meticulous process. It begins with choosing and preparing colours that capture the playful spirit of the design. Each tiny coil is then made by hand and placed, one by one, into a block of white porcelain. The white clay surrounds every coil completely, making the colours appear suspended within it. This part of the process alone takes around three hours.

Once the confetti pattern is in place, two types of contrasting lines bring the composition together. A pink line runs horizontally around the cup, connecting the design, while fine black lines introduce a sense of calm among the burst of colour. Together, they create a balance between playful energy and quiet simplicity.

One of the most fascinating parts of Nerikomi is that the final pattern can never be fully predicted. As the block is cut and shaped, each little coil changes its appearance, revealing a different arrangement of colours. Even cups made from the same block develop their own patterns, making every piece unique.
